Biography
Vice Chairman of the United Nations Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change in Geneva, co-winner of the 2007 Nobel Peace Prize for work on global warming. Has earned post-graduate degrees in engineering, physics and development economics from Cambridge University (UK), Massachusetts Institute of Technology (USA), and McGill University and Concordia University (Canada) as well as received several honorary doctorates. Currently, he chairs the Munasinghe Institute of Development (MIND), Colombo and serves as Honorary Senior Advisor to the Sri Lanka Government and Visiting Professor to the United Nations University, Tokyo. During 35 years of distinguished public service, he has served as Senior Energy Advisor to the President of Sri Lanka, Advisor to the United States President's Council on Environmental Quality, and Senior Advisor/Director to the World Bank. He taught as Visiting Professor at a number of leading universities worldwide.
